In the presence of numerous politicians from Vojvodina and
representatives of the Croatian Embassy in Belgrade and Consulate
in Subotica, the chairman of the publishing company's governing
board, Tomislav Zigmanov, said that a magazine under the same name
had been issued from 1945 through 1956, and thanked the Yugoslav
province's assembly for having understanding for the re-issuing of
the weekly.
"We can now again write about social reality and position of Croats
in Vojvodina in a truthful and professional manner and in our own
tongue," Zigmanov said.
A vice-president of the Vojvodina parliament, Miroslav Mrnustik,
said people in Vojvodina were "proud of the differences among them,
and whenever problems occurred in Vojvodina, they were caused by
those who came from the outside, set flames, and the people of
Vojvodina suffered because of that.
In the first issue of the weekly, the president of the Vojvodina
Assembly, Nenad Canak, said in an interview that the province's
constitution, which was the topic of public debate for three
months, would be presented to MPs by the end of February.
Pursuant to a decision by the assembly, the Croatian language last
year became one of official languages in Vojvodina. Immediately
after that, the assembly passed a decision to resume financing a
Croat national minority's paper in the province.
