At a news conference in Rijeka, Zlatko Komadina, said he could not
agree with those who were opposing some industrial projects because
of the protection of tourism. He admitted that all would be happy if
it had been possible to close industrial plants so as to develop
tourism, but, as he said, importance should be given to industry and
employees in that sector as well.
Komadina said that even without Adriatic pipe line (JANAF) Croatia
would probably have ecological problems and risks.
The local SDP leader said he advocated that competent ministries
and JANAF prepare the project and elaborate a study on its impact on
the environment.
The Druzba Adria project should connect pipelines in a few eastern
and central European countries such as Russia, Belarus, Ukraine,
Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia. According to an agreement these
countries signed last December, the two 3,200 kilometre long oil
pipelines should link the Russian town of Samara with the Croatia's
Adriatic export terminal in Omisalj.
