ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Unions' Association (HUS) on
Thursday denounced public threats of prosecution and attempts of
the president of the Croatian Judges' Association, Vladimir
Gredelj, to settle accounts with the president of the New Union,
Mario Ivekovic. #L#
The HUS believes that threats to prosecute Ivekovic is "additional
proof that the rule of law is not functioning and that some judges
are involved in the criminal privatisation process".
In a statement released Thursday, the HUS dismissed Gredelj's claim
that Ivekovic's statements about a corrupt judiciary were an attack
on the legal order.
They believe that Ivekovic bravely showed to the public that crime
helped the establishment of the legal order.
The association says that the judiciary is passive towards
established illegal privatisation processes.
The unions therefore ask of the government to denounce Gredelj's of
"those similar to him" attempts of a showdown with Ivekovic who was
yesterday supported by the Independent Union of Science and Higher
Education.
Gredelj on Wednesday filed criminal charges against Ivekovic
because he believes that Ivekovic committed the crime of
pressurising justice officials and called on resistance to legal
decisions with his statements about corrupt judges.
