Representatives of all party benches, government, trade unions and
employers on Tuesday held a working meeting in the parliament
building to discuss government-sponsored changes to the Labour
Act.
The unions and employers voiced completely opposed stands with
regard to the bill.
The unions claim that the government has failed to establish how
much the changes will affect the growth of employment, urging that
before the new law is adopted labour legislation be defined and laws
guaranteeing social security for workers who are to be laid off be
prepared.
The employers consider the changes a compromise solution which,
nevertheless, would ensure increased investments in economy and
the growth of GDP and employment.
Party whips presented some suggestions and called on the social
partners to agree on disputable issues before the changes are
adopted. It was also stated that parliamentary procedure left
enough room for all sides to reach agreement on contentious
issues.
