ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - At the end of January there were 367,118 unemployed persons registered with the Croatian Employment Bureau. The number of the jobless in January thus rose by 0.3 percent (956 persons) as against December, but
fell by 10.7 percent (44,000 persons) as against January 2002.

During this January, 21,038 people registered themselves as
employed, and 73 percent of newly-registered had their previous
employment contracts just terminated.
At the same time, 20,082 persons were erased from the Office's lists
of those on the dole. Of this figure, 8,963 people got jobs, while
the rest (11,119) were eliminated from the lists for various
reasons such as their failure to report themselves regularly to the
office or to abide by other legal provisions or because of the
change in their status or retirement.
