ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - Croatia and Iran oppose a unilateral attack
by the United States against Iraq, the chairman of parliament's
Foreign Affairs Committee, Zdravko Tomac, said on Monday. #L#
"Both countries advocate the settlement of international disputes
through the United Nations and oppose individual countries,
regardless of their strength, taking measures on their own," Tomac
said after meeting an Iranian parliamentary delegation.
A war against Iraq would radicalise the situation in the Middle East
and the entire world, Tomac said.
The head of the Iranian parliamentary committee on foreign affairs,
Mohsen Mirdamandi, said Iran had already prepared for the reception
of refugees from neighbouring Iraq, but he hoped it would not come
to that.
Asked about Iran's stand regarding the possibility of Kurds in
northern Iraq using the war to secede, Mirdamandi said Iran
supported Iraq's integrity but that the Iraqi people had to decide
what kind of authority and state they wanted.
The Iranian delegation today also met President Stjepan Mesic and
Parliament President Zlatko Tomcic. Later in the day, they will
meet Vice-Premier Goran Granic.
