Parliament did not vote on items discussed yesterday for lack of a
quorum.
Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic said that the bill was
aimed at fully protecting families from its violent members and
adjusting Croatia's legislation to international.
It was therefore proposed that abusers be financially fined or put
in prison for a period between three months to three years.
According to the minister, the best characteristic of the bill are
measures for the protection from violence, including psychological
help for abusers, restraining orders and safety protection
measures for the persons exposed to violence.
"The government's primary intention was to place families under
special protection because the main cause of domestic violence is
unequal power and gender inequality," Anticevic Marinovic said.
Parliamentary benches are currently debating the bill in its first
reading.
