In a letter to US Secretary of State Colin Powell, NFCA president
John Kraljic voiced concern about the status of Croats in Bosnia-
Herzegovina and called on the United States to urge Saudi Arabia to
discontinue its assistance to Bosnia-Herzegovina because it was
promoting the kind of Islam and culture which were alien to Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
The three Croats from the village of Kostajnica near Konjic were
killed by a Muslim extremist and member of an alleged humanitarian
agency financed by Saudi Arabia.
Kraljic stated that the US government was partially responsible for
the crime as well because it did not encourage the policy of
protection of Croats' rights. He claims that the US policy of
ignoring the strongest Bosnian Croat party - the Croatian
Democratic Union - has left Croats defenceless against political
attacks by Serb and Islamic organisations in the country.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the chairman of the US Senate
committee on foreign relations, the chairman of the House of
Representatives' committee on foreign relations and the US
Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The NFCA is an umbrella organisation of Croatian Americans which
gathers around 13,000 members.
