SVETA GERA, Dec 28 (Hina) - Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) presidential candidate Slaven Letica visited Sveta Gera, an area on the border between Croatia and Slovenia which is the subject of a territorial dispute between the two countries.

"The Slovene army has occupied this area, and the European Union has indirectly become an occupier as well," Letica said, calling once again for the demilitarisation of the area.

Letica said he had raised this issue with Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul, who said that Croatia had taken the necessary steps with a view to demilitarisation of Sveta Gera and that it had also notified Brussels.

"If I am elected president, Sveta Gera will be reintegrated into the territory of the Croatian state by St Elias' Day, July 20," the HSP candidate pledged. St Elias is Sveta Gera's patron saint.

He also promised that the construction of a road linking Sveta Gera to the village of Sosice would be completed by July next year.

Letica handed out leaflets to Slovene soldiers in the nearby barracks to inform them of his election platform.
