Speaking to reporters after meeting Serbia and Montenegro's Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic in Tirana on Wednesday evening, Nano said Albania "is ready to establish a serious partnership" with Serbia and Montenegro, according to a statement issued by the Albanian government's public relations office on Thursday.
The statement, carried by the Albanian news agency ATA, quoted Nano as saying that Albania was willing to "actively cooperate and participate in regional and Euro-Atlantic integration processes" and that it wanted to "show its international allies and partners that it is ready to live peacefully with the others in the region".
Draskovic was quoted by the agency as saying that "the past cannot be changed, but our joint future can." "I am ready to cooperate with you in building peace, security and prosperity in the region," he added.
Draskovic also met Albanian President Alfred Moisiu, who said that "the problem of Kosovo can be resolved only if its residents show good will, understanding and trust, in cooperation with the international community," according to a statement from Moisiu's office.
Draskovic said that the future of the countries in the region, including Kosovo, was in their integration into NATO and the European Union.
Draskovic will conclude his first official visit to Albania on Thursday with a meeting with representatives of the Serbian and Montenegrin community in the country.
Albania and the former Yugoslav federation of Serbia and Montenegro broke diplomatic relations in 1999 during the Kosovo conflict and restored them in 2001.
