In Tirana Mesic took part in a summit dedicated to the role of interethnic and interreligious dialogue in the development and progress of Southeast Europe.
Mesic also held talks with UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura and Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.
The summit was organised by UNESCO and was held under Moisiu's auspices. In attendance, alongside Mesic, were six other heads of state and government, including the presidents of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, and Macedonia, and about 100 political and religious leaders, experts and representatives of international and religious organisations from all over the world.
Talking to the press at the end of his stay in Tirana, Mesic said that such meetings were important even for regions which had not been affected by war because they sent out messages about tolerance and the need for dialogue.
