ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - Croatian Bloc (HB) presidential candidate Ivic Pasalic held in Zagreb on Wednesday his final rally for the January 2 presidential elections, advocating a sovereign concept of Croatian policy and the defence of the legitimate interests of the Croatian people and state.

He accused the incumbent authorities of leading a traitorous, servile pro-European policy and of being corrupt. He said the main proponents of that policy were incumbent President and presidential candidate Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. He added their policy was being dictated by the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Carla del Ponte, and that the economic policy was being created by the International Monetary Fund.

Pasalic said Croatia was on the brink of an abyss and that the presidential election was an opportunity to change that.

He stated Croatia needed a policy founded on self-awareness, determination and faith in the Croatian people. He said there was no difference between Mesic and the ruling Croatian Democratic Union's presidential candidate Jadranka Kosor.

According to Pasalic, accepting indictments from the Hague tribunal which say Croatia was created on crime and ethnic cleansing and calling on all citizens to catch fugitive general Ante Gotovina represents a betrayal of national interests, the Homeland War and war veterans.

Pasalic said it was unacceptable to have the Government form coalitions with people he labelled the leaders of the Chetnik revolt in Croatia and treat war veterans as criminals.

He said that if elected president he would call a referendum on Croatia's admission to NATO and on the Druzba Adria oil transport project, adding he was against both because they were harmful for Croatia.

Pasalic said he was running in the election because of his love for Croatia and the need to tell the truth. He added he would never betray Croatia and its citizens, urging them to support him so that he could "politically knockout Mesic" in the second round.
