Describing corruption as something contrary to the Christian duty to be solidary, Bozanic writes that corruption "undermines basic values of interpersonal relations such as confidence, honesty, fairness and equality and can significantly affect solidarity and safety of citizens,"
In the Christmas message which Zagreb Archbishop's public relations office forwarded to Hina on Tuesday, Bozanic calls on all segments of society -- social institutions, political organisations, authorities, nongovernmental organisations, the media, the Church and religious communities as well as every citizen to join their efforts so as "to remove that plague from our society"
Bozanic wonders whether corruption is the main reason for the strong polarisation in Croatia between a small number of very rich citizens and a great number of empoverished people.
The archbishop also points out solidarity as a great value and calls those in power to establish mutual connections in society.
At the end of his lengthy message Bozanic wishes merry Christmas to citizens in Croatia.
