In the lengthy open letter, the Catholic associations said that after studying available materials on the project, which offered what they said unfortunately very scarce information on the issue, they expressed their outrage at the fact that the public had not been adequately informed of the "dubious benefits" which the project might bring for Croatia.
Citing ecological, economic as well as moral reasons for Croatia's withdrawal from the project, the associations call on all religious communities, civil society institutions, public figures and local and state authorities in Croatia and abroad to urge the discontinuation of the project which might "definitely threaten the existence of the current and future generations and irrecoverably destroy the natural riches of our homeland".
