The signatories also ask for the discontinuation of destabilisation of the political situation in the country so that talks on constitutional changes can continue.
The open letter reads that "the ill-intended media campaign and criminal charges which always turn out to be groundless, are aimed at the intentional discrediting and belittling of elected representatives of the Croat people, and create an impression of (their) incompetence and inclination to crime".
It is believed that the reason for sending the letter is the case of the Croat member of Bosnia's three-man presidency, Dragan Covic, who was elected to this post as an HDZ BiH candidate.
According to the media, several criminal investigations have been launched against Covic on suspicion of abuse of office and corruption he is suspected of having committed while he was Finance Minister of the Croat-Muslim entity.
The HDZ BiH says that it will not let foreigners or Bosnian intelligence services elect or fire Croat representatives to the post of the head of state, no matter which pretext they use.
