KOTOR, Dec 7 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Civil Initiative (HGI)
in the Montenegrin coastal town of Kotor, Nikola Cicic, said on Tuesday that
at forthcoming early local elections the HGI would push for the political and
social rehabilitation of Croats and other indigenous ethnic groups in
Montenegro who had often been discriminated against for various reasons.Cicic said that the HGI was the first Croatian political party in Kotor
in 66 years, and that this was an important step forward in helping the Croats
exercise their right and their contribution to democracy and co-existence in
the region.
The HGI advocates proportional representation of Croats in government
institutions and preservation of Croatian culture, language and the Latin
script.
"The present situation does not satisfy the national, cultural and
social needs of the Croats in Montenegro, so the HGI will call for construction
of a Croatian cultural centre in order to remedy the situation," Cicic
said.
