"This is a major-league and historical event which is equally important as was the granting of the national minority status to Croats in Serbia and Montenegro, the introduction of the first Croatian weekly "Hrvatska Rijec" and the official introduction of the Croatian Language in Vojvodina," Ivanovic said.
He said the signing of the agreement would open a new chapter for national minorities in Serbia and Montenegro and in Croatia.
According to Ivanovic, one the most important items in the agreement is the one binding the domicil country to financially assist institutions and projects aimed at the preservation of the identity of the minority.
This year, Serbian officials showed understanding for out needs and allocated financial assistance for the work of the Croatian Nation Council, Ivanovic said.
The agreement on the protection of the Croat Minority in Serbia and Montenegro and the Serb and Montenegrin minority in Croatia will be signed in Belgrade on November 15 by Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and his Serbia counterpart Vojislav Kostunica.
