PODGORICA, Nov 11 (Hina) - Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said on Thursday a referendum on Montenegro's status would be held in a year's time at the latest, and announced impending talks with representatives of Serbia's highest state bodies and an agreement with the European Union, the third signatory to the Belgrade Agreement.

Speaking to the press in Podgorica, Djukanovic said it was irrational to hold direct elections for the Serbia and Montenegro Parliament in the year of the referendum.

He said he did not expect the political scene in Montenegro to radicalise unless the direct elections were held, as announced by the opposition, which he said was trying to undermine the political stability.

Djukanovic said Montenegro was stable in both the political and the macroeconomic sense.
