BOSNIAN MINE REMOVAL EXPERTS IN IRAQ IN SPRING 2005

SARAJEVO, Dec 2 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina Defence Minister NikolaRadovanovic met his British counterpart Geoffrey Hoon in Sarajevo onThursday.
SARAJEVO, Dec 2 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina Defence Minister Nikola Radovanovic met his British counterpart Geoffrey Hoon in Sarajevo on Thursday.

A unit of mine removal experts from Bosnia will be sent to Iraq in spring 2005, Radovanovic said and added that the decision on sending 36 mine removal experts to Iraq was made by the Bosnian Presidency. The decision is yet to be confirmed by the state parliament, Radovanovic said and expressed hope MPs would support the decision of the state leadership.

Fearing a possible terrorist retaliation, part of the Bosnian public strongly opposes Bosnia's participation in the Iraqi mission.

Answering a reporter's question, the British official declined to comment on such oppositions and stressed that investing efforts in permanent stability in Iraq was important for the entire international community.

Hoon said his country would continue to play an important role in the European Union's military mission in Bosnia.

He dismissed claims by ICTY chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte that Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic had not yet been arrested due to a lack of political will within NATO.

The Briton said that arresting the two criminals and other ICTY fugitives was an extremely important issue for the entire international community, including Great Britain.
