ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - Parliamentary deputies of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) have proposed establishing a commission to investigate if two former high state officials favoured certain companies with regard to the signing of contracts between the former government and some companies which the media claimed were owned by the two officials or connected with them.

According to documents of the former Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Construction, which was headed by Radimir Cacic, in the period between 2000 and 2003 the ministry signed under the housing construction programme 181 million kuna worth of contracts with three companies which were claimed to be possibly owned by Cacic.

In the same period, the ministry signed 3.5 million kuna worth of contracts with the Capital-ing d.o.o. design and supervision company, which was connected with former parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic.

The HDZ proposed that the commission establish if Cacic and Tomcic favoured those companies while they were holding high state posts.

The commission is expected to complete its investigation in three months and inform the parliament of its findings.

The HDZ's proposal was added to the agenda of the parliament's ongoing session on Wednesday.
