ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - In the continuation of a parliamentary debate on reports by the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) Directorate and the Programmes Council, members of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party raised numerous objections to the programming on the national television network.

Sveral HDZ deputies criticised TV reporters and editors for lack of professionalism, political bias in their comments, and for neglecting positive achievements of the Government of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.

In the last four years, the HDZ has been fully neglected in HRT programmes, and even today you will hear opinions of opposition politicians and former ministers more often than those of the present Government, HDZ member of Parliament Jagoda Majska Martincevic said.

Members of the main opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) described the HDZ's criticism as a form of pressure on editorial policy and the freedoms of reporters and editors at the HRT.

HDZ members hit back by saying that the SDP wanted to maintain the "status quo" at the HRT in order to ensure that the public heard only the views of the opposition.

The HDZ said that with the adoption of the Croatian Radio and Television Act and the establishment of the HRT Programmes Council the Parliament did not lose the right to be critical of all segments of the operation of the national broadcasting corporation in order to improve its role as a public service.
