SISAK, Nov 15 (Hina) - The Serb ethnic minority's member of Parliament, Milorad Pupovac, said on Monday he was satisfied with the 60 percent increase in funds for the reconstruction of Serb returnees' houses in the draft national budget for 2005.

Speaking at a seminar on ethnic minorities in the local community at Sisak, Pupovac said between 6,000 and 8,000 houses could be reconstructed with that money. He added that about 15,000 requests for reconstruction were submitted.

Pupovac said the reconstruction of about 9,000 houses would be completed by the end of this year.

Speaking of the application of the Convalidation Act, he said he was not satisfied with how the Justice Ministry and other state bodies dealt with the recognition of rights to pensions, adding that this issue would be discussed with the Government further.

He said that Serb representatives' talks with the Government also addressed putting an end to accusations for war crimes, which he said were one of the obstacles to the return of Serb refugees.

The seminar was organised by the Council for National Minorities, the Government Office for National Minorities, and the Town of Sisak, with the support of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
