"Since Prime Minister Ivo Sanader rejected our demand yesterday that Zuzul be relieved of his duties, we call on Minister Zuzul today to resign," the head of the HNS club of deputies, Dragutin Lesar, told reporters in the Parliament on Thursday.
The HNS has repeatedly accused Zuzul of tax evasion, involvement in the so-called Bechtel scandal, and, as Lesar said, of a "classic case of conflict of interest" because as a government minister he had participated in making decisions that directly concerned the business operations of his wife"s firm.
"This case, this scandal (with Imostroj), proves why the (ruling) HDZ has been boycotting the work of the Commission on Conflict of Interest these past ten months," Lesar said.
Zuzul has recently rejected all the allegations, including the one that he was in conflict of interest when the government decided to write off Imostroj"s debt.
