The spokesman for the police department in east Sarajevo, Radovan Pejic, told reporters that the purpose of the raid, which lasted three and a half hours, was to arrest Bosnian Serb Gojko Jankovic, who is sought by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
Police searched eight buildings and seized a large amount of material that might be of "substantial assistance" to the efforts aimed at arresting the indictee, the spokesman said, adding that the police also took statements from several persons encountered in the buildings.
The operation was overseen by members of the European Union Police Mission.
