The talks held on Monday and Tuesday focused on support to Croatia's joining the EU and its aspirations to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2008-2009 period.
"The talks mostly focused on support to Croatia in negotiations with the European Union, but I also sought support for our intention to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2008-2009," Sanader told Croatian reporters on Tuesday.
He held talks with the European Commissioner Chris Patten who is drawing up a document on pre-accession strategy for Croatia. The Croatian PM said the document should be completed in the first half of October and added that Patten told him that everything was proceeding as planned.
Sanader said he also received support form the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana.
On Monday evening the Croatian PM attended a dinner party given by a Jewish association called the Appeal of Conscience Foundation at which he held talks with Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson. Sanader said Sweden fully supported Croatia.
Sanader was also present at the start of a general debate of the annual UN General Assembly at which UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and U.S. President George W. Bush delivered speeches.
At luch given by Kofi Annan, the Croatian PM held talks with a number of leaders from Africa and South America.
During his stay in New York, Sanader also met UN under-secretary in charge of political affairs Kieran Prendergast, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fisher, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier, Lithuanian President Valdas, the President of El Salvador, Antonio Saca Gonzales, and the President of Ghana, John Agyeku Kufuor.
