ZAGREB, Sept 20 (Hina) - The ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) refuted a feature in Monday's prime time Croatian Television newscast on a poll the party is conducting about a candidate for upcoming presidential elections, saying in a press release that the information about the results of the poll was untrue and completely unfounded.

The party said the research it was conducting as part of quarterly public opinion polls was still under way and that its results had not been processed.

National television said that even though only 91 days remained before presidential elections, the HDZ was still waiting with the nomination of its candidate, and that the poll should help party president Ivo Sanader choose one. The newscast also said that although the party had intended to present its candidate later this month, this was postponed for early October, in part due to the poll.

The feature went on to say that according to unofficial sources, Sanader led the way on a list of potential candidates offered to respondents, even though he has repeatedly stated he has no presidential ambitions, and that he was followed by Andrija Hebrang and Jadranka Kosor.
