According to an opinion poll conducted by Ljubljana's "Delo" daily, 73 percent of the electorate will go to the polls on October 3. This is a few percent more than four years ago, but it does not indicate any major change in the attitude of the electorate necessary for radical political changes and the victory of the "Slovenia" coalition, which consists of Jansa's party and the New Slovenia Christian Democrat party of Andrej Bajuk.
According to the poll, which covered 713 voters, the Party of Liberal Democrats would win 34 percent of the vote, which would ensure Rop another term as prime minister, while his potential coalition partners from the Joined List of Social Democrats would win 8.5 percent of the vote. If Janez Podobnik's People's Party or Zmago Jelincic's Slovene National Party were to join the coalition, Rop could have the majority in the new parliament although he will lose his coalition partners from the past four years - the Desus pensioners' party and the Youth Party, which according to the poll will not pass the election threshold.
Jansa's party would remain the strongest opposition party with 23 percent of the vote, while Bajuk's New Slovenia would have to settle for 8.5 percent although it was the most successful party in the European parliamentary elections in Slovenia, winning more votes than the LDS.
