Mato Crkvenac told reporters in Rijeka the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party had accepted every IMF instruction the former SDP-led government had not wanted. He said the policy of the HDZ was superficial and subject to IMF control every three months, and added it was absurd that incumbent ministers had to discuss every move with IMF staff.
Crkvenac accused the HDZ of irresponsibility, recalling that parliament in 2002 at the insistence of the HDZ adopted a decision not to sign a new arrangement with the IMF without a prior parliamentary discussion.
Another SDP MP, Gordana Sobol, said the number of unemployed women was on the rise as was domestic violence, especially against children.
