ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - Chairpersons and members of parliamentary foreign policy committees from countries in the region and the European Union on Monday met in Cetinje, Montenegro, to reach agreement on cooperation.

Opening the two-day forum, vice-president of Serbia and Montenegro's parliament Milorad Drljevic announced a flurry of parliamentary activity among countries in the region, to include a meeting of committees on defence and security to discuss concrete measures in the fight against organised crime and terrorism. The meeting is expected to take place in two months.

Drljevic also announced meetings of committees on education, science and culture, economy and European integration, which are to work together on building a region of economic prosperity and unique cultural identity and a society without borders.

The president of the Montenegrin parliament, Ranko Krivokapic, said his country was interested in stability on the foreign front, which he said was not possible without cooperation with neighbours.

The president of the Serbian parliament, Predrag Markovic, said that it was important to ensure separate paths to European associations for Serbia and Montenegro. He added that this position was supported by most democratic forces.

The development of parliamentary cooperation between members of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative and cooperation with other regional initiatives will be the main topic of tomorrow's session.

The forum will be attended by representatives from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Italy, Albania and other countries.
