ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament President Vladimir Seks sent a letter on Friday to the Speaker of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, Lord Falconer of Thoroton and the Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael J. Martin, expressing his satisfaction with the completion of the process of ratification by both houses of the British Parliament of Croatia's Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union.

The letter said that the ratification of the agreement clearly showed that relations between the United Kingdom and Croatia were improving and that it was also a good basis for the additional intensification of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, according to a statement from the Croatian Parliament.

Seks said that Croatia had entered a new phase of relations with the European Union after receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership on June 18 this year and after negotiations on accession were set for the beginning of 2005.

In this context the decision by the British Parliament provides an additional impetus to Croatia on its path to eventual full membership of the European Union, the letter said.

The letter concluded by saying that in the coming period the Croatian Parliament would step up its work on adjusting domestic legislation to the acquis communautaire and continue all other reforms necessary for acquiring full EU membership.
