BELGRADE, Sept 1 (Hina) - The Belgrade District Prosecutor has issued
an indictment against Milorad Lukovic aka Legija, several members of his
Special Operations Units known as the Red Berets and former Belgrade police
chief Branko Djuric for killing four members of the Serbian Renewal Movement
(SPO) on the Ibar highway in October 1999, Beta news agency said on
Wednesday.Lukovic, whose surname was originally Ulemek, is also accused of
planning, organising and leading the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister
Zoran Djindjic on March 12, 2003. The trial in this case is due to resume next
week.
Lukovic is also charged with murder of former Serbian president Ivan
Stambolic and with attempted murder of SPO leader Vuk Draskovic in the
Montenegrin Adriatic resort town of Budva in 2000. The joint trial in the two
cases has been scheduled to resume later this month.
