LAWYER: 'GOTOVINA TAPE' FORMALLY SHOULDN'T INFLUENCE DECISION ON CERMAK'S RELEASE FROM CUSTODY

ZAGREB, April 7 (Hina) - Cedo Prodanovic, the attorney of General Ivan Cermak, has said that the video footage of General Ante Gotovina at a meeting with officers after the liberation of Knin should not formally produce an effect on the decision of the UN war crimes tribunal's trial chamber on releasing his client pending trial, but he admitted that the tape "certainly does not help Cermak".
ZAGREB, April 7 (Hina) - Cedo Prodanovic, the attorney of General Ivan Cermak, has said that the video footage of General Ante Gotovina at a meeting with officers after the liberation of Knin should not formally produce an effect on the decision of the UN war crimes tribunal's trial chamber on releasing his client pending trial, but he admitted that the tape "certainly does not help Cermak".#L# Asked by reporters how much the video tape on which the Globus weekly reported would influence the decision on temporary release of Cermak from the custody in The Hague, the lawyer said on Wednesday that the matter whether somebody would be detained in custody or temporarily released was not directly related to the establishment of somebody's guilt. Prodanovic said that as far as he knew, the video footage did not give any new moments regarding the duties which Cermak had in the area of Knin after the August 1995 Storm Operation. The lawyer also said he did not see any reason for the appearance of the video tape to considerably change Cermak's position before the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal, given that the footage was made on 8 August 1995, the day when Cermak arrived in Knin with the task to help establish civilian life. "All his orders and decisions, made from 6 August to mid-November 1995, refer only to the establishment of civilian life and the communication with the international community and the media, " Prodanovic said.
