ZAGREB, April 6 (Hina) - The Croatian foreign ministry has expressed
dissatisfaction with media reactions to the possible appointment of
Neven Jurica as ambassador to the United States, describing the
accusations against him as untrue and groundless.#L#
"During his career in Croatian diplomacy, notably during his three
terms in office as ambassador, Neven Jurica has never violated his
duties or behaved improperly as some Croatian media try to present
now," reads a press release issued by the ministry on Tuesday,
The ministry described as inappropriate and frivolous media
speculation on possible reactions of members of the diplomatic corps
in Croatia or US diplomats with regard to "unauthorised and unofficial
media reports on Neven Jurica's appointment as the next ambassador to
Washington".
The procedure of appointment and approval of the ambassador is under
way, and Croatian media are quite unusually trying to influence,
prejudge and interpret the future autonomous official decision of the
US regarding Croatia's proposal, the press release reads.
The ministry said that through such reports the media were not
portraying a serious image of Croatia and its foreign policy,
particularly in the part of the procedure that was not public in any
diplomacy.
Upon completion of the said procedure the media, of course, can and
have the right to express their view on the steps taken by state
bodies, which is their intrinsic public duty in a democracy, the
ministry said.
