Speeches on Thatcher's book and policy were delivered by Croatia's
first authorised representative to London, Drago Stambuk, a professor
at the Zagreb Faculty of Political Sciences, Ksenija Jurisic, as well
as by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
"I met Mrs Thatcher when she was no longer making state decisions,"
Mesic said, adding that unlike the rest of the world Thatcher
understood what was going on in the Balkans in the early 1990s and
advocated helping the republics of Socialist Yugoslavia.
Stambuk recalled that Thatcher replied to remarks from her associates
that the British government would crucify her because of her
endorsement of Croatia by saying that in Croatia's war of
independence, if crucifixion was the question, it was better if she,
rather than Croatia, was the one crucified.
