ZAGREB, March 26 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Friday proposed criteria for the retirement of active military personnel according to the decision of the President of the Republic, the armed forces' supreme commander.#L# The Ivo Sanader cabinet proposes the measures formally through the changes to the law on the service in the Croatian Armed Forces. The general conditions are ten years of service in the army, six months of participation on the Homeland Defence War, and good performance in the work before the proposal for the so-called retirement under the President's decision is submitted. Regardless of the fact that an army officer meets the said conditions, he or she could not be retired in this way if disciplinary procedure against them has been launched or a final disciplinary punishment declared. Besides, officers who are, under a final court ruling, found guilty of crimes against the Republic of Croatia, freedoms and rights of citizens etc., will not be entitled to this right. They will be denied this right also if an investigation against them is under way on suspicion that they have committed such crimes. The government on Friday also drew up a bill on ban on use, storage, production and transport of anti-personnel mines. The government sent into parliamentary procedure a bill on the establishment of the National Examination Centre, an institution which would be in charge of conducting the unified school-leaving examination at the state level. A total of 1.6 million kuna will be ensured for this purpose this year, and at the beginning it will employ 10 persons. (Hina) ms
