The victims were women from Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and some other countries. Victims were also Croatian citizens. Trafficking in humans is a global problem and Croatia has actively joined the struggle against it. A national committee on the prevention of people smuggling was founded in May 2002. Prime Minister Ivo Sanader stressed Croatia was not perceived as a destination country or a country of origin, but as a transit country. The government must do its best to prevent the transit through Croatia, he said, The government adopted a report on the implementation of the framework convention for the protection of national minorities which is submitted to the Council of Europe's Advisory Committee every four years. The report shows the overall improvement of the rights and the position of national minorities. (Hina) it sb
