ZAGREB, March 4 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday rejected a Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) amendment to this year's draft budget, in which the party sought 300 million kuna for introducing a pension scheme for the most destitute category of population.#L# Economy Minister Branko Vukelic said the proposal should be examined more carefully, after which a project on this pension scheme would be developed within the system of social care this year. The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) has withdrawn an amendment which sought, among other things, regulating the allocation of funds for the payment of pensions to war invalids. HSP deputy Pero Kovacevic said that according to his data from 1999, more than 1,000 of 5,100 people who at the time received disability pensions did not have the status of soldiers, while some did not have the status of disabled war veterans. This way, two billion kuna of budgetary funds were allocated illegally in the past four years and this practice must stop, said Kovacevic. Jadranka Kosor, Minister of Family and War Veterans Affairs, announced that the Law on the Rights of Soldiers would be amended soon. Government members turned down a number of amendments to the state budget, saying that this year's funds for some budgetary items were bigger than last year. (Hina) rml sb
