MINISTER: OSIJEK COUNTY ASSEMBLY WASN'T DISSOLVED BY ADMINISTRATIVE COURT

ZAGREB, Jan 27(Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt said in parliament on Tuesday the reason for the dissolution of the Osijek-Baranja County Assembly was the government's decision to that effect and not the rulings of the Administrative Court which the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional.
ZAGREB, Jan 27(Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt said in parliament on Tuesday the reason for the dissolution of the Osijek-Baranja County Assembly was the government's decision to that effect and not the rulings of the Administrative Court which the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional.#L# Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) deputy Vladimir Sisljagic requested an explanation as to the real reasons for the dissolution of the Osijek County Assembly, claiming that Hina "incorrectly and falsely reported that the unconstitutionality of 12 rulings of the Administrative Court brought into question the dissolution of the Osijek County Assembly, as well as the recognition of early county elections, held on 18 January". "Hina has deluded the public by claiming that the decision of the Constitutional Court has brought into question the lawfulness of the early county elections of January 18," Sisljagic said. Minister Skare Ozbolt confirmed that the county assembly was dissolved because it had not met for more than three months, prompting the government in November last year to decide on its dissolution. A report about the Constitutional Court's ruling issued by Hina on Monday reads that "considering that the deadline of 30 days for the Constitutional Court to establish if the elections for the Osijek County Assembly were in line with the Constitution has still not expired, there is a possibility to challenge the January 18 elections because they were preceded by unconstitutional decisions". This would be the first such case in the history of the Constitutional Court, the agency's report reads. (Hina) rml sb
