Opposition parties will divide 11 posts of committee chairperson among
them, while the post of chairperson of the Committee for Human Rights
and National Minority Rights will be filled by a representative of the
minorities.
This was agreed at a closed-door meeting between the Parliament
Presidency and the leaders of the clubs of deputies of all
parliamentary parties.
Parliament President Vladimir Seks told reporters after the meeting
that the agreement on the division of posts had been reached by
consensus. He added that leading posts in parliamentary delegations
had also been allocated, with two to be filled by deputies of the
ruling party and the other two by those of the opposition.
"This is a reasonable solution," Seks said, adding that the Sabor
would be functioning well.
Seks said that the ruling party had already nominated its chairpersons
and members of parliamentary working bodies and added that he expected
the opposition to submit their nominations by tomorrow.
Under the agreement, the fifth post of parliament vice-president will
be filled by a member of the HDZ or by one of the 14 deputies of the
parties supporting the government -- the Democratic Centre, the
Croatian Social Liberal Party, the Independent Democratic Serb Party,
the Croatian Pensioners' Party, minorities, or independent MP Ivo
Loncar.
"This issue remains open," Seks said, declining to specify who would
fill that post.
