Bosnia-Herzegovina.#L#
The police of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the
Stabilisation Force (SFOR) arrested yesterday in Mostar former Croat
officials Ante Jelavic, Miroslav Prce and Miroslav Rupcic. Although
the contents of a possible indictment have not been officially
released, TV Federation BiH reported that the three were suspected of
being directly responsible for the embezzlement of funds that the
Croatian authorities had sent as assistance to demobilised members of
Bosnian Croat forces, disabled war veterans and families of the
soldiers killed in the war.
The office of the Franciscan order in Mostar said in the statement
that it did not wish to prejudge court rulings or actions, but it had
the impression that successful Croat projects (Mostar University, the
Aluminium company, Croatian Post, Croatian Telecommunications, public
media) were exposed to pressure.
The order also voiced suspicion that the arrests had to do with the
proposal on the reorganisation of Mostar. Stressing the right of the
Croat people to equality, the order called for the adoption of
decisions on the organisation of other Bosnian towns, based on equal
criteria, before making the final decision on the organisation of
Mostar.
