ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has promised to compensate for the damage which Croatian fishermen suffered due to Wednesday's incident in Savudrija Bay.

The government will compensate the fishermen for the loss, Sanader said at a government session in Zagreb on Thursday.

He promised a full investigation into the latest incident so as to see who was engaged in it.

A leader of local Croatian fishermen, Danilo Latin, said yesterday that two Slovene fishing boats on Tuesday prevented a Croatian boat from Savudrija from catching fish in the Croatian part of the Adriatic. According to Latin, the two Slovene vessels remained in Croatia's territorial waters one day.

The owner of the Bukva ship from Savudrija, Moreno Ossich, was forced to stop fishing on Tuesday when the two Slovene boats sailed too close to his boat, posing a danger for the nets.

Ossich was forced to return to the Savudrija port, while the Slovene boats stayed there until Wednesday morning. Latin described this as yet another act of provocation by the Slovene fishermen.

The Istria County police confirmed that it had received a report on Wednesday's incident.
