PRISTINA, Nov 22 (Hina) - Kosovo's negotiating team on Tuesday handed UN secretary-general special envoy Martti Ahtisaari the Kosovo side's positions on Kosovo's independence.

After talks with former Finnish President Ahtisaari, Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova told the press the Kosovo delegation presented a document on the Kosovo side's views on the solution to the Kosovo issue, demanding independence.

Rugova said Ahtisaari had greatly contributed to the end of the war and bloodshed and the engagement of NATO in the UN-administered province.

Commenting on announcements on a possible meeting of delegations of Kosovo and Serbia, Rugova reiterated the position that an international conference on Kosovo could be organised with representatives of the province in south Serbia, the international community, the contact group and neighbouring countries.

After meeting the Kosovo negotiating team in Pristina, Ahtisaari went to an Orthodox monastery in Decani, where he met bishop Teodosije and was acquainted with the situation of the Serb Orthodox Church and the Serb people in Kosovo.

On Wednesday, the United Nations envoy on negotiations on Kosovo will give a statement to the press in Pristina about his talks with the Kosovo side, after which he is due to visit Belgrade, Podgorica, Skopje and Tirana.
