"The Slovene government hasn't discussed Kosovo's independence and its status, and the president's initiative is his personal proposal," Rupel told Belgrade's NIN weekly, Slovene media said on Friday.
Rupel said Ljubljana's position on Kosovo was the same as Brussels' position, namely there is no return to the status Kosovo had before 1999 and Kosovo cannot be divided or annexed to an Albanian-populated state or region.
Rupel also told NIN that Slovenia would support Montenegro's independence if it was achieved in accordance with European Union standards. He added, however, that Slovenia primarily wished to maintain good relations with both Belgrade and Podgorica.
