Lavrov met Kosovo and international officials for talks on preparations for negotiations on Kosovo's status. He underlined that in seeking a solution for Kosovo they must honour United Nations Security Council resolutions on Kosovo.
At a news conference with UN civil administrator Soren Jessen-Petersen, Lavrov reiterated that the solution to the Kosovo status could not be imposed but must be a result of agreement and compromise, which he said in Belgrade earlier today.
The Russian minister said that in seeking a solution for Kosovo, one should also consider the interests of people who live and used to live in Kosovo.
There is no going back to the situation before 1999 or changing the borders, he said.
