At a press conference after the meeting, the president was asked to comment on relations with Slovenia and on border issues.
Mesic said he would propose that Croatian and Slovene experts sit down at the negotiating table and analyse "every inch" of the disputed border.
He recalled that the borders between the countries of the former Yugoslavia had been determined by the Badinter Commission, but added that they had not been identified. Experts should therefore "identify the disputed sections of the border," he said.
Mesic said that the issue should be settled, because the European Union was getting the impression that Croatia did not want to cooperate with Slovenia and vice versa.
Asked if that meant that he was not in favour of international arbitration, Mesic said that it was for the Croatian government to decide whether it would bring a dispute before European institutions or opt for international arbitration.
"Croatia is open to both options," Mesic said.
