ZAGREB, Aug 26 (Hina) - The State Secretary for Political Affairs
of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Hido
Biscevic, met European Union ambassadors and a representative of the European
Commission's Delegation in Zagreb on Friday to acquaint them with Croatia's
position on the Slovene government's decision to send to parliament a bill
declaring an ecological zone and an epicontinental shelf in the Adriatic
Sea. According to a statement from the Croatian ministry, Biscevic
said that Croatia rejected the Slovene decision as legally unfounded and
invalid. He described as very harmful the move "to demarcate the temporary
southern border of the ecological zone by coordinates which absolutely and
indisputably represent the territory of the Croatian state".
Commenting on Slovenia's explanation that it was a temporary solution,
Biscevic said that Croatia viewed such a method of defining one's negotiating
position as unfair and unacceptable.
Biscevic said that the Croatian government was disappointed with the
Slovene government's decision, noting that it was evidently contrary to the
current pace of development of bilateral relations. He reiterated Croatia's
commitment to continuing dialogue on the development of good neighbourly
relations between the two countries.
