According to the statement, Biscevic and Cerar confirmed the two countries' political will to continue developing good neighbourly relations.
The two officials stressed the need to consistently implement the Joint Declaration on Avoiding Incidents and the agreement reached at the last meeting of the two countries' foreign ministers. Biscevic and Cerar also exchanged views and information about some current political and legal issues in bilateral relations, the statement said.
The Croatian Ministry said on Monday that the meeting was called following Slovenia's decision to declare an ecological zone and an epicontinental shelf.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said that the bill on declaring an ecological zone and an epicontinental shelf was drafted jointly by Slovenia's Foreign Ministry and Ministry for the Environment and sent to the Slovene Government on 18 August to be discussed under urgent procedure. The Croatian Foreign Ministry said the Croatian Government reacted immediately after receiving information about the bill, stating that the Government was in permanent diplomatic contact with Slovene officials.
The statement also said that Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader held talks with his Slovene counterpart Janez Jansa on 19 August, while state secretaries at the Croatian and Slovene foreign ministries, Hido Biscevic and Bozo Cerar, are scheduled to discuss the issue on Wednesday, 24 August.
According to the Slovene media, the Slovene Government will discuss the bill at its session on Thursday.
