ZAGREB, Aug 26 (Hina) - The Croatian State Secretary for Political Affairs, Hido Biscevic, delivered a note of protest to Slovene Ambassador Andrej Bekes at a meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in Zagreb on Friday after the Slovene government endorsed a bill declaring an ecological zone and an epicontinental shelf in the Adriatic Sea.

Biscevic conveyed dissatisfaction and disappointment on the part of the Croatian government with the Slovene decision, saying that it harmed good neighbourly relations between the two countries.

Biscevic noted that the Slovene decision was in contravention of the joint declaration of the two governments on the avoidance of incidents, under which Slovenia and Croatia undertook not to take any steps that would compromise efforts to resolve the border issue or change the situation in the border areas.

Croatia considers as unacceptable the move by Slovenia to define the temporary southern border of the zone by coordinates of 45 degrees and 10 minutes, and says that that area is "absolutely and indisputably" Croatian state territory.

Biscevic reiterated Croatia's readiness to continue dialogue and cooperation with a view to further improvement of bilateral relations in the spirit of cooperation in Europe and tradition of mutual respect.
