Croatia's Branko Vukelic said last year's trade of USD280 million could not be satisfactory considering the possibilities.
Croatian exports to Switzerland in 2004 were about USD80 million, while imports from Switzerland were around USD200 million.
Vukelic said that despite these figures, last year Croatian exports to Switzerland went up 90 per cent while imports grew 10 per cent.
He added the main task was to increase overall trade.
The talks also addressed Swiss investment in Croatia, which was small in the recent period despite positive examples of investing in a cement plant and a glass factory.
"We wish to encourage Swiss investors to invest in tourism and especially in production," Vukelic said, adding he expected Swiss investment in Croatia to grow significantly in the coming years.
Swiss Economy Minister Joseph Deiss said legal security, land books and administration were very important for investments.
He said that in his talks with Vukelic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, he learned that Croatia had invested a lot of effort to reform those areas.
Deiss expects Croatia to improve the investment conditions in the coming period even more.
The two ministers were agreed the Swiss-Croatian Business Association, established in late March, would help in attracting investment and augmenting trade.
The association said in a statement it briefed Deiss and the Swiss economic mission about the association's activities and goals in the promotion of Croatian-Swiss economic cooperation.
