ZAGREB, Aug 8 (Hina) - The Zagreb Municipal Prosecutor's Office has pressed charges against the former head of Caritas' Zagreb branch, Jelena Brajsa, for preventing to prove a crime, which is punishable with a fine or up to one year in prison, the Prosecutor's Office said on Monday.

The charges were pressed following an investigation in a Caritas home in Brezovica on suspicion that one underage ward there had been sexually abused and that there had been an attempt to rape one female employee.

Last month the police searched Brajsa's house and found a diary in which a former cook at the Brezovica home had allegedly described his sexual abuse of the home's wards. Brajsa had claimed she had seen the diary but not read it or taken it home. The cook is currently detained.

Following the discovery of the diary Brajsa felt sick and was hospitalised. A few days later, the Zagreb archbishop, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, relieved her of duties for health reasons.

Criminal proceedings in connection with the Brezovica case have so far also been pressed against a former janitor and five counsellors, three of whom were nuns. They are suspected of neglecting and abusing the home's children.
